I. Mathematical Expression:

$$f(X)=x_1 \cdot e^{\left(-x_1^2-x_2^2\right)}$$

where:

\(\bullet\) \(-1.5\leq x_i \leq 1.5\) , \(i=1,2\)

\(\bullet\) If it is considered as a minimization problem:

\( \ \ \ \ \ \ \rhd\) \(f_{min}(x^*)=-0.428881942480353\)

\( \ \ \ \ \ \ \rhd\) \(x^*_i=(-0.707106776321847,-3.324529260087811\times 10^{-9})\)

\(\bullet\) If it is considered as a maximization problem:

\( \ \ \ \ \ \ \rhd\) \(f_{max}(X^*)=0.428881942480353 \ \rightarrow f_{max}(X^*)=-f_{min}(X^*)\)

\( \ \ \ \ \ \ \rhd\) \(x^*_i=(0.707106776321847,-3.324529260087811\times 10^{-9})\)

\(\bullet\) These optimal values have been obtained by us using MapleSoft 2015. For ensuring convergence to the global optimal location, the good initial point has been determined by the biogeography-based optimization (BBO) algorithm, which is coded in MATLAB 2011a.
